Department of History

With the dream of diffusing higher education and making the students of the region history conscious, the department was opened up with the initiation of this college in the year 1st August ,1969  with a modest number of students and a few faculty members of its own to conduct classes at both XII and UG (Pass & Hons.) level. By dint of very sincere and hard work of the students and teachers duly supported by the authority of the college, the students become successful to register their places and to uphold the name of the college at both university exam level and in the sphere of other academic, sports and cultural areas of this state. So, the department earned widespread popularity within a very short period of time. As a result, the roll strength of the department was increased very rapidly. Some leading scholar of the state has joined in the department to deliver their best. All these help a lot to render the department into the then lead department of the college with the roll strength of 300 students and seven (3 full time and 4 Scat) faculty members, of them two holding Ph.D. degree maintaining almost 100% success rate year after year.

Mode of Teaching Learning and Evaluation: Apart from traditional Chalk and Talk method the faculty of the department have also been following different others method to make its learners quality students. In order to do so, the department provide the e-learning method, audio visual method, special classes, organising students seminars, debates, quiz, poster competition, academic tour, field work and publishing wall magazine based on their stipulated university syllabus on regular basis. It also conduct Eligibility Test at the very beginning of new session to know the strength and weaknesses of newly admitted students which usually help a lot to find out the numbers of slow learners and smart learners. The faculty members regularly conduct tutorial, periodical, class test to assess the progression ad performance of the students. The performance of the teachers also assesses through innovative practices, Mentor-mentee relationship and extra-curricular activities mention in the diary of the department.

Support Services: In order to attend optimum success the teacher as well as the institution delivers study materials, list of references, e-materials, books and journals from both Departmental Library and College Central Library. These apart, the students can avail book bank facility, question bank facility, historical maps and chronological charts, remedial classes and special classes as and when required.

 Mission and Vision: The stake holders of the department always intend to offer PG in History, different UGC Add-On Courses, Research and Experiment facilities in any un-trodden area of history. It also very keen to provide classes in Entry in Service as an innovative practice to assist the students to find out their livelihood in near future. In a word the mission and Vision of the faculty members is render their department into lead and  quality department of the college as well as the colleges of the University.
