Philosophy is defined as an attempt to explain and appreciate life and the universe as a whole. The philosophers does not look at life and the universe as piece meal, but always taken
these as systematic whole. The philosopher’s attitude is not to be identified with that of scientist who confines himself that of aspect of existence, but philosophy’s searching is confined not to any particular aspect of existence. He is on the word of Plato the sector of all tease and existence when philosophy studies the universe both in its personal aspects and in its real character. It will not only know the universe but also show that it knows correctly, philosophy is the explanation as well as appreciation of life and universe. From the history of philosophy, we came to know the early Greek philosophies objective and theoretical, but with rise of Socrates and Plato, the objective attitude was supplemented by practical.
The development of philosophy in India is not parallel to that of West. The philosophy of India has not been the result of accumulation of thoughts and ideas. It is like the full grown tree, its branch, foliage, fruits from the poor of seed. The main systems of Indian philosophy, has given bumphases to the Upanisadie idea. The Vedanta School gives most rational and acceptable explanation of life and universe. Philosophy expands its field in Philosophy of Mind, Logic, Ethics, Social and Political Philosophy, Psychology also. Department had also conducted seminar, Workshop, Periodical Lectures, Special lectures in National, International Level. Co-curricular activities like Cultural program, Wall magazine publication, Educational Excursion, Job Oriented Training (NET/SET/SSC) for Alumni Student had been organized by the department. We face many problems but we try to give our best. Our aim is the practical Vedanta teaching of Swami Vivekananda “Arise, Awake and Stop not till goal is reached.”
