About the Department
The Bengali Department of Mahishadal Girls’ College is very rich and sound. From the very onset (1st August 1969) of this college, it had been studying as the Honours and Pass subject. Bengali is perhaps the richest department in respect of good result and number of students for the last 57 years. Bengali is one of the most popular subjects among the students as it is our mother tongue. Moreover, scope for service in the subject is large as it is a compulsory subject from primary education to graduation level.
Teaching-Learning Practices
In addition to the traditional chalk and talk method, special interactive classes applying group discussion, question-answer and demonstration methods are arranged to encourage the students and thereby improve their learning. In-house seminars, frequently organized by the department, help the students acquire knowledge, skill and self-confidence. Special classes are held during the study leave of the students, with special attention paid to slow learners.
Classes are also taken through the use of technology by means of Power Point Presentations. Interest is grown among the learners by showing them films on different dramas and novels in the syllabus. Moreover, Film, Video, Drama Shows, Audio-Visual methods and Slide Shows are arranged on various dramas and topics in the syllabus to create interest among the students as well as to provide additional information.
Departmental Activities & Facilities
The striking feature of our department is that we undertake regular field-work on Folklore and Folk literature and also arrange departmental educational tours. We have our own departmental Wall Magazine named “SRIJAN”, through which the hidden creativity of the students is manifested. Students are also encouraged to take part in NSS, NCC and cultural activities to promote a sense of participation among the students.
Faculty
The Bengali Department of Mahishadal Girls’ College can take pride in having some of the most enthusiastic and dedicated teachers of the college. Departmental seminars are held regularly to improve the overall performance of the students and lead them towards research motivation. But in addition to these formal methods, the greatest strength of the department has been the teacher-student intimate relationship that has kept the department alive.
Our Commitment
We are earnestly trying to project the Bengali Department of our College as an exemplary one, with our sincere and honest endeavour in teaching, cultural activities and the all-round development of our students.
