Year of Establishment
Since 2006, the General course in Chemistry has been introduced and has grown steadily with the keen support of the departmental teachers and laboratory staff. In 2011, the Honours course was affiliated by Vidyasagar University, and the first batch of Honours students was admitted in 2012.
Courses Offered
Offering B.Sc. MAJOR with/without research (Four Years) & MINOR course in Chemistry as per NEP 2020 (Academic Session 2026–2027) designed by Vidyasagar University. B.Sc. Chemistry (Major) is offered with two (Minor) subjects – Mathematics / Physics / Computer Science / Zoology / Physiology / Botany. Multidisciplinary B.Sc. students can take Chemistry as a combination subject.

- Well-equipped classrooms and laboratories – the John Dalton Lab (Physical Chemistry) and the Madam Curie Lab (Organic & Inorganic Chemistry).
- LCD projector for classes conducted through PowerPoint presentations.
- A range of instruments including a centrifuge machine, heating mantle, hot air oven, oil-free vacuum pump, refrigerator and digital weighing balance.
- The department runs a wall magazine – “Molecule”.
- Wi-Fi supported department.

- Several intensive model demonstrations, experiment shows and industrial field visits.

Results and Achievements
- Very low dropout rate and high enrolment rate for the next level of higher education – two students, in the last five years, have achieved a Ph.D. degree.
- A good number of students secure first class in their final result every year.
