About the Department

The Department started its journey in the year 2000 with Music as a General (Pass) course, affiliated to Vidyasagar University. Later, in 2006, the Honours course in Music got recognition. The pupils get to learn Indian Classical, Semi Classical as well as Bengali (Rabindra Sangeet, Nazrul Geeti, Atulprasadi etc.) and Regional Music from a host of learned faculties. At present, the 4 years’ CCFUP NEP program is being taught at the Department.

Aims and Objectives

• To impart knowledge of Indian Music to prospective students.
• To prepare the students in developing their inherent culturally rich talent.
• To motivate students to go through rigorous and extensive study of Music as a subject through regular Counselling so that they can opt for various professional courses after the completion of UG.
• To excel in areas of teaching, learning and research.
• To justify the standard through continuous quality assessment.
• To create competence, conscience and compassion among students.
• To help the mass understand that Music is not merely a subject of entertainment, but a hardcore academic subject with multifaceted outcome.

Facilities Provided to the Students

• Books reading and lending facility from the departmental library.
• CD lending and record listening in the class room from the departmental Audio Library.
• Provision of Internet facility from the college for free surfing.
• Tutorial classes are held almost throughout the year.
• Lecture demonstration, seminars, quizzes and workshops are held to facilitate and enrich the students.
• Cultural development through Wall Magazines, Fresher’s party, Farewell, Observance of events are organized.
