An integral part of the college since 1969, offering the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP) under the CCFUP-NEP curriculum of Vidyasagar University.

About the Department

The Department of Political Science, Mahishadal Girls’ College, has been an integral part of the institution since its establishment in 1969. The Department initially offered the General (Pass) Course in Political Science under the affiliation of Vidyasagar University. In 1996, the Department expanded its academic horizon with the introduction of the Honours Course in Political Science. At present, the Department offers the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP) under the CCFUP-NEP curriculum of Vidyasagar University.

The Department is committed to imparting quality education in Political Science by providing students with a sound understanding of Political Theory, Indian Government and Politics, Public Administration, International Relations, Human Rights, Political Sociology, Public Policy, Comparative Politics, and contemporary global issues. Through classroom teaching, tutorials, seminars, academic discussions, and co-curricular activities, the Department strives to develop critical thinking, democratic values, social responsibility, leadership qualities, and research aptitude among students.

Category-wise Intake Capacity

At present, the Department has an approved intake capacity of 9 students in the Four-Year B.A. (Honours/Honours with Research) Programme in Political Science. The category-wise distribution of seats is as follows:

  • Total – 9

Aims and Objectives

  • To impart comprehensive knowledge of Political Science and its diverse sub-disciplines.
  • To develop critical, analytical, and independent thinking among students regarding political, social, national, and international issues.
  • To promote awareness of democratic values, constitutional principles, human rights, gender equality, social justice, and good governance.
  • To encourage academic excellence through quality teaching, learning, research, and extension activities.
  • To prepare students for higher education, competitive examinations, civil services, teaching, research, and other professional careers.
  • To ensure continuous quality enhancement through effective teaching-learning practices and regular academic assessment.
  • To nurture responsible, informed, and socially committed citizens capable of contributing meaningfully to society and the nation.
